This nationally recognised course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to inspect, test, and maintain non-gaseous pre-engineered fire suppression systems in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and manufacturer requirements.

These systems commonly include wet chemical, foam, powder, and water mist suppression systems installed in high-risk environments such as workshops, plant rooms, and industrial facilities. The course focuses on routine service activities that confirm systems are operational, compliant, and ready to perform in an emergency.

This course does not cover installation, replacement, repair, or maintenance tasks that are restricted to licensed trades or regulated occupations.

This course is suitable for personnel with basic skills and knowledge who undertake routine inspection and testing tasks under the direction of more experienced or licensed workers, including:

  • Fire safety and compliance personnel

  • Facility and maintenance staff

  • Fire equipment servicing assistants

  • Workers responsible for routine fire protection system checks

Learning outcomes

The course covers the following topics:

  • Prepare for inspection, testing and maintenance
  • Inspect and survey installed non-gaseous pre-engineered fire suppression systems
  • Test installed non-gaseous pre-engineered fire suppression systems
  • Maintain and repair an installed non-gaseous pre-engineered fire suppression system
  • Ensure testing procedures are completed and recorded according to relevant maintenance schedule referred to in Australian Standards
  • Documentation requirements
  • Identification of system and system components
  • Legislative and industry requirements
  • Work permits

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Provide photo I.D on entry
  • Unless exempt, provide a verifiable USI number
  • Be physically fit and healthy with capacity to perform manual tasks
  • Be able to read, write, communicate orally, and understand and interpret complex information and situations
  • Interact with others and work under pressure
  • Dress appropriately i.e., long sleeve, long pants or overalls, safety boots/closed in shoes, safety glasses

SDS is committed to identifying and supporting the language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) needs of all learners. Where required, SDS may conduct an LLND assessment prior to training to determine whether any additional support or reasonable adjustment is needed.

Completion

On successful completion participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

  • CPPFES2027 Inspect, test, and maintain non-gaseous pre-engineered fire suppression systems
